Direct line double the cost of my car insurance
Direct line have more than DOUBLED the price of my car insurance.
Not one single advisor, underwriter or administration staff can give me a valid reason for doing it.
Was £29 per month, it will now be increased to £60 per calendar month - for the exact same vehicle!
All they will tell me is, "Yes it is correct" and that, "Every other insurance company is putting up their prices!"
Oh and when you see their lovely funny adverts on your television, offering "52 days FREE car insurance for NEW policy holders" - think on... they are telling you lies!
My renewal notice is more than double what I paid last year, I paid less when I started driving with them 14 years ago, but even at £60 per calendar month, it is still£30 a year CHEAPER than what they would charge me, if I was a new customer, this includes the "52 days free car insurance"
I would think long and hard before you give your custom to this company.
If they CUT PRICES and treated their customers fairly, instead of paying stephen fry and paul merton large fees for doing voice overs, then they would be ok.
As it stands, in all my time with them, (more than a decade) the price of my insurance has NEVER been reduced!
My car insurance renewal quote this year is a 112% higher than I paid last year. I have been with Direct Line 3 years but now I am off to one of the reputable companies that have offered me the same insurance cover for less than I paid in 2009.
I suspect that the current management at Direct Line do not have a grasp of economics!
Couldn’t agree more Ian.
Shouldn’t it be the case that insurance (of all kinds) should be priced at a level that reflects the customer’s claims record - crime in their area and vehicle, as it used to be?
Now we are being forced to pay more for other people’s claims, any losses the company have had over the previous year, etc.
When the insurance offered is cheaper because of what job I do, it is on the realms of discrimination, and this don’t forget, is for car insurance which is required by law.
They don’t appear on comparison web sites, they say, as they want to keep the costs to their customers as low as possible. Like hell they do. Direct Line don’t appear on comparison sites because they are b****y expensive. They would have slotted in at 52 out of 87 quotes that I got from a price comparison website, if they had appeared there. No accidents or claims and the same car but they put my insurance up by 42% this renewal. Needless to say I won’t be using them again.
my car insurance has also doubled but they can give me no explanation but my mums insurance has stayed the same i feel like i am being discriminated against today i am paying £112 but at the end of the month i will be paying £208 DIRECT LINE has lost my custome and i will not be reccomending them to anyone !!!
A similar thing happened to me. I have been a DirectLine customer for 7 years, but my policy renewal figure has leapt 70%, even though I have not made any claim.
I can’t help thinking this is due to DirectLine being part of RBS, looking to claw money back for the group. I will be moving my policy.
